About Us

Deep Data Analytics is the brainchild of Mathan Somasundaram, a 25-year veteran of the finance and technology sectors. In an increasingly volatile and uncertain economic and political landscape, Mathan saw the need for a dynamic data-driven investment strategy that can be used to optimise the risk-adjusted returns for investors. Seamlessly combining top-down and bottom-up approaches, the vertically integrated, multi-tiered model has been carefully calibrated over the years to rapidly adapt to evolving macro conditions and thereby ensure an effective and dynamic trade-off between risk and return.

Deep Data Analytics has been used as the focal point of strategy in macro marketing documents to Institutional and High Net Worth clients for over a decade. With successive years of consistent and reliable returns despite major disruptive thematic cycles, Deep Data Analytics is widely recognised as one of the leading integrated investment strategies in the market. And now, with the inclusion of a variety of risk/return investment options and insights, breadth of users from institutional to retail investors have access to cutting-edge analytics at their fingertips.

Mathan Somasundaram graduated from Sydney University as an Electrical Engineer in the mid-’90s. He joined British brokerage firm County NatWest (which later became Citi) at a time when quantitative analysis and data driven investment was in its infancy. Soon this discipline, grounded in the fundamentals of mathematics and the logical stratosphere of information systems would become Mathan’s passion and niche. And by the turn of the millennium, his Quantitative Strategy team routinely ranked among the top tier in Australia.

In 2007, following completion of the Executive MBA at AGSM, Mathan consolidated his expertise by heading the global equity product for Logical Information Systems, a US technology firm based in Austin Texas (later taken over by Morningstar). The experience he gained developing, building and running a global technology platform gave him the inside knowledge needed to piece together the design features for Deep Data Analytics.

His subsequent return to Sydney post-GFC allowed him the opportunity to work at several financial organisations such as Southern Cross Equities, Bell Potter, Baillieu Holst and Blue Ocean Equities and thereby gain insights into the unique information needs of a range of investor groups (asset consultants, financial planners, financial advisers, retail and institutional clients). This experience is the cornerstone of the versatility and vertically integrated design of Deep Data Analytics.

Throughout his career, Mathan has seen numerous economic and market cycles, both at a local and global level. The gamut of these experiences and the lessons gained surviving them is the culmination of Deep Data Analytics.
